Midvale Beats The Rain Again
July 30, 2016
Midvale Beats The Rain AgainThe Quaker Digital Academy presented Twin 40 lap features for the Street Stock's and Compact's in week #13. Just as we did a week prior, we avoided early showers to complete another great night of racing at "Thunder In The Valley". Fifty four car's and truck's made the pull despite the iffy weather. It was 82 degrees and sunny at race time.

The first feature to pull onto the Speedway was the Summit Racing Economy Modified 25 lapper. Jason Grewell in the #99 and Lucas Ripley in the #0 brought the field down for the start. Ripley shot out to the race lead and pulled the #38 of Kevin McClintock with him, putting Grewell back to 3rd. Bryce Allensworth in the #21 was able to get around Grewell on lap 3, but Ripley and McClintock had pulled out by six car lengths. As the laps clicked off the board, Allensworth started to reel in the front two as Grewell dropped into the clutches of Shawn Kaufman in the #10. The only caution waved on lap 9 as the #42 of Jeff Bowling had a major push in the middle of the corner, which caused him to get loose off turn four. As he pointed down the banking, he collected Laney Striejewske in the #17, sending her head on into the front straightaway wall. Striejewske was ok, but the car badly damaged. Back under green, McClintock tried to do exactly what he did two weeks ago, take the outside lane to victory circle. He did all he could to get enough momentum in the outside lane, but there just wasn't enough rubber after the rain shower. After a three lap battle, Ripley prevailed and didn't put a wheel wrong the rest of the way. Ripley powered to his third career win, second of the season and took over the point lead, all in a quick 25 laps!! Following the Uhrichsville OH driver in the Brindley Trucking, LTR Industries, Ridgco Pallet, D&B Machine and TVU Graphics sponsored #0 was McClintock, Allensworth, Kaufman and Grewell.

The first twin 40 was for the Canton Auto Salvage Compact's. The last two weeks, they went green to checkered. The question was could they make it three in a row? The #15 of Kyle Finlayson and the #38 of Brandon France started on the front row. Finlayson would lead the opening lap by a nose. France would lead lap 2 and clear Finlayson off turn two on the second lap. The first caution in three weeks flew on lap 3 as the #4E of Larry Ennis Jr lost a wheel off turn four. After the green, France would continue to lead as Dan Buckey in the #69 moved to second, Clayton Oliver in the #19 moved to 3rd, the #27 of Britt Vanmeter to 4th and the #21 of Gage Jaberg completed the top 5. On lap 6, Oliver got by Buckey and looked to make a move to the outside of France for the lead, but Buckey was still there. The two made contact and went into the wall, ending Oliver's night. Back to green, Buckey was able to take over the point after he was given his spot back after the caution. Jaberg would get up to second and on lap 10, take the lead. Vanmeter would get to second and the final caution would wave on lap 15 for the #30 of Korey Herron losing a wheel. The lead duo would start to put some serious distance on the field during the middle stages of the race after the restart. On the 27th lap, the defining moment happened. Coming off turn four, Jaberg's computer misfired, causing him to lose power as Vanmeter blasted by. Jaberg would recover and run Vanmeter back down, but ran out of laps. Vanmeter would pick up his 3rd victory in 2016 and increase his point lead. Following the Cuyahoga Falls OH driver in the Outlaw Vinyl's and Cater 4 You sponsored #27 was Jaberg, Buckey, France and Sam Bigham.

Mark Willison in the #18 and Ron Jaberg Jr in the #22 brought the field to Chief Starter Terry Colletti's green flag, the first 2 times. Jaberg was sent to the tail after being told multiple times to not start the race in the 3rd groove, however would recover nicely for a good finish. So, Willison and Bob Schneider Jr in the #17 would start on the front row. Schneider would take advantage of his good fortune and take the race lead. On lap 2 Bryant Smith in the #1 would move to second and Alex Rosenberry in the #2 would move to 3rd. Schneider would lead until Bryant swung to the outside on lap 7 as brother Bubba in the #12 moved to 4th. After a four lap battle, Bryant would finally clear Schneider. Rosenberry wouldn't take nearly as long getting to second. At the halfway point, Rosenberry started to work on Bryant as Bubba, the point leader, was forced to pull pit side due to a mechanical issue. On lap 19, Bryant started to lose the handle and a patient Rosenberry finally got a run to the inside. Bryant would battle hard on the outside but it was evident Rosenberry had the stronger car on this night. The only caution flew on lap 21 for Schneider as he spun off turn two. On the restart, Rosenberry easily shot out front and started to pull away. Rosenberry would pick up his second feature win of the season in an exciting, clean race. Rounding out the top 5 behind the New Philadelphia OH driver in the Rosenberry Towing, Flite Test, McIntosh Oil Company sponsored #2 was Bryant, Willison, Jaberg and Larry Baker.

The second of the Twin 40's was the JD Byrider Street Stock's. Josh Moss in the #77 and Waylon Orr in the #28 brought the field to the stripe. Moss would lead lap one by a nose, heck, he would lead the first 16 laps by a nose. Moss and Orr in the first row, Bill Aubihl in the #31 and Colton Ritchey in the #21 in the second row, Don Boron Sr in the #88 and point leader Gabe Pringle in the #7 in the 3rd row and Kyle Grove in the #3 and Bob Passwaters Sr in the #75 in the 4th row. For 10 straight laps, that's how they ran. Side by side, nose to tail, 4 deep. Finally Boron Sr and Pringle got single file and that allowed Grove a hole in the outside lane to start advancing. The first caution waved on lap 17 as Larry Pringle in the #4 spun in turn three. After the restart, it was more of the same side by side, exciting racing. This time, Orr had the advantage by inches in the outside lane. The night ended for Boron Sr after he cooked his brakes and spun in turn four. Orr would restart on the bottom and Moss on the top with Ritchey and Aubihl in row two. Grove had had enough of the side by side racing and tried a 3-wide move going into turn three on lap 22. The replay showed that he didn't quite have the lane as he and Aubihl got together. Grove was sent to the back and Aubihl, who had all kinds of issues in his first night out last week, was having a great night in 4th. With Orr on the bottom and Moss on the top, nothing changed. The front two and sometimes three and four rows remained deadlocked. Pringle finally was able to get around Aubihl for 4th and that got everyone behind the front two rows single file. Just what Grove wanted to see. He was not happy, on a mission and luckily for him, it was a 40 lap race. So, after incredible, exciting, door to door, nose to bumper racing for 35 laps, Ritchey started to get impatient and rightfully so. He was peeking a few laps, testing the waters. He found the opening he needed off turn two. Ritchey would take the leaders 3-wide into turn three. Orr tried to get in deep to protect and Moss came down to try to close the door on Orr, it was the right recipe for an accident. Unfortunately for Moss, he drew the short straw and has for the last few weeks. Orr just clipped the bumper of the #77, turning him around. Aubihl got caught up into it and both their nights were over after a super performance by everyone in the field. Orr was sent to the tail for being at the right place at the wrong time. With all the craziness at the front, Grove found himself on the pole for the restart, because he was a nose ahead of Ritchey at the last completed lap. Ritchey would try to put up a fight but would lose second to Pringle as Grove sailed off to the win, his 6th of the year. Following the Uhrichsville OH driver in the JD Byrider, CNAC Financing, El Pueblito Mexican Cuisine, South Philly Pizza and Greg's Recovery sponsored #3 was Pringle, Ritchey, Passwaters Sr and Larry Smith.

The final event was the 12 lap Finish Line Motor's Mini Truck feature. Joe Linard in the #82 and Rich Schweitzer in the #84 started up front. The two would race hard into turns one and two with Schweitzer gaining a slight advantage down the back straightaway. Schweitzer would drive hard into turn three, trying to clear Linard and close the door. When he did, Linard hit him square in the tailgate, sending the #84 up the hill. That bump and run ended up being the Quaker Digital Academy move of the race. If Schweitzer could have got back to him, payback may have been in store, but the #82 was too strong. Linard might not have the most motor, but he has the best handling machine in the division. He would check out and cruise to win number six as Colt Locker in the #118 was able to get around Schweitzer after a great 3-way battle for the runner up spot. Finishing behind the Dover OH driver in CinnaVapes Premium E-Liquid, Dover Drywall, Russ Moore and Son's Concrete, Racer 8 Performance, Rick Watson Trucking, Buckey Auto Sales, South Philly Pizza and Ennis Hauling sponsored #82 was Locker, Schweitzer, fastest qualifier Roger Linard and Alex Striejewske.

Saturday Night August 6th is The Akron Auto Auction ARCA Truck Series 100. Modified's, Street Stock's, Mini Truck's and Compact's will also be in action with Spectator Drags at intermission. Come out and check out the ARCA Truck Series as it makes its return to Midvale Speedway.
