More Drivers Test To Prepare For OpenerA beautiful Saturday afternoon led to a large number of drivers and teams filling the pits this past weekend for test and tune. It was the third test held so far this season, and it turned out to be the most successful with nearly 50 competitors shaking down their rides.

7 McIntosh Oil Company Late Models were on track with New Philadelphia, Ohio teenager Alex Rosenberry quickest of those that had transponders with a 13.920. Unofficially though, Strasburg, Ohio Driver Marcus Malcuit was just as fast if not faster, reportedly in the 13.8's, in his blue #75 but he was not carrying a timing device. Veteran Mike Miller, debuting his new Jaberg, Jr. racing car, was relatively fast as well turning a 14.181. Randy Smart, Joe Linard, Ron Kirkpatrick, and Virgil Ravenscroft, III were also fine tuning their high performance automobiles.

The Summit Racing Equipment Modified division, expected to be unbelievably stacked with great drivers and cars, had double digit numbers Saturday alone. Fastest of those on timing and scoring was Todd Ripley, circling the 3/10-mile oval with a 14.564. Mike Green, Kevin McClintock, Tim Westerfield, Jr., and Lee McCreery completed the top five. Brandon Bailey, Mike Bowers, Joe Ujcich, Shawn Marder, Don Boron, Jr., Philip Cox, and Braden Swaney also clocked in. Steve Mowery was fast but did not have a transponder.

Everyone is getting excited again about the J.D. Byrider Street Stock class as 11 were on hand for Saturday's test session. Fastest was Rick Elkins, Jr. in the Stewart Flooring #62. Elkins, who turned a 15.873 was followed by Gary Hoopingarner, Bob Passwaters, Jr., Jeff Bowling, and Bob Passwaters, Sr. Others present were Todd Miller, Dan Buckey, Brian Lewis, Jr., Brian Lewis, Sr., Waylon Orr, and Dennis McGraw.

In the Canton Auto Salvage Compact division, Clayton Oliver bested the field of front wheel drives with an 18.124. The Malvern, OH teenager was followed by Tommy Barrett Chase Beatty, Laney Striejewske, and Wes Ennis. Rounding out the competitors were Kyle Finlayson, Justin Renicker, Gage Jaberg, Gerald Hahn, Ryan Shreffler, Stephanie Chambers, Daniel Risley, and Cristian Bailey.

Construction is moving along well in the concession area and the season opener is set for this Saturday, April 26. The event sponsored by McIntosh Oil Company, Bloom's Printing, and American Racer Tire will feature all five weekly divisions plus Spectator Drags at intermission.

Pit gates will open at 2:30, hotlaps and grandstands at 3:00, qualifying will start at 4:45, and racing will begin at 6:30. Grandstand admission for this weekend's opener is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 62+, and $8 for kids 6-15. Children 5 and under are free. Pit admission will be $25 for members and $30 for non-members.

A final tune-up session is set for Friday, April 25 from 4:00-8:00. Pit admission will be $10.
