Midvale Opening Test & Tune Complete
April 13, 2014
A good number of teams took advantage of the great weather and got some laps in this past weekend at Midvale Speedway for test and tune. 30 cars were on the track Saturday, while over 20 were on hand yesterday.

In the McIntosh Oil Company Late Model division, a total of 8 drivers shook down their rides. Fastest of the weekend was Bubba Smith of Canton, Ohio, who got his Port City Chassis updated in the offseason. 2013 champion Bryant Smith was second quick with a 14.100. New Philadelphia teenager, Alex Rosenberry brought his Late Model on Saturday and his Super Late Model yesterday. The Midvale car was pretty good, while the Main Event car still needs some fine tuning. Larry Baker, Randy Smart, Jonathan Reitter, Joe Linard, and Ron Kirkpatrick were also on hand.

Nine Summit Racing Equipment Economy Modifieds were trackside during the two day test. Fastest was 2013 champion Kevin McClintock who turned a 14.824. Justin Courtney was right behind him at a 14.830. Rookies Brandon Bailey, the grandson of Midvale great Joe Nign, Philip Cox, Don Boron, Jr., and Braden Swaney were gaining valuable track experience. Todd Ripley, Steve Mowery, and Josh Anders also got some track time.

In the J.D. Byrider Street Stock class, Canton, Ohio driver Mike Martin set fast time for the weekend with a 16.165. Robbie Patterson was second quick in practice with a very respectable time. Also on hand were Cody Collmar, Jason Wright, Kyle Anders, Brian Lewis, Jr., Brian Lewis, Sr., and Andrea Hunter. The class looks like it will be pretty strong in 2014.

Kyle Grove set fast time in the Compact division, reaching the mid 17's. Dan Buckey, Tom Barrett, Laney Striejewske, Chase Beatty, Brandon Westerfield, Cristian Bailey, Daniel Risley, Jeffrey Orr, Gage Jaberg, and Ryan Shreffler were also on track.

Competitors in the Mini Truck division as well as a couple of dirt track compacts were present to turn some laps as well. Complete listings of practice times are posted on the left column of the site at midvalespeedway.com.

Due to construction delays, the season opener set for April 19 has been pushed back one week to April 26. In lieu of the opener, Midvale Speedway will hold its next test and tune from 12:00-5:00. Pit admission will be $10, while grandstand admission is free.
